Pattern Preview

Finally.... finally,  I am so excited to be able to say that my little online shop will be open very soon and I wanted to give you a little preview of my very first quilting patterns.   It has been quite an experience and I cannot tell you how many hours have been spent learning how to computer graphics.   This is a wholly new adventure for me and I am, of course, a little anxious about it.   All the designs are my own original work and I really hope you like them.   I have quite a few more in the pipeline, including some embroidery patterns, so I hope very much that you will stop by often and see what is new on the site. 

So, I would like to introduce you to 'Jimmy's Windmills', 'Regatta' and 'Pineapple Crush'.  Each quilt has a small embroidered wall hanging to compliment it, so you can start big or small...whatever takes your fancy.  

 My first pattern 'Jimmy's Windmills' is a very personal project for me.   It is named for St. James Hospital in Leeds and the proceeds for every copy sold, will be donated to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre appeal there.    About 18 months ago, one of our boys, was diagnosed with a very rare and random condition called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis that involved having some treatment there.   He is doing fine now, but for many months we had to attend the hospital and during long days spent at the hospital, we saw so many young people with very serious conditions, who were undergoing difficult Chemo programmes.   It was during this time that I decided to have a go at designing some patterns and this was my first idea.   The Windmills were so bright and cheerful and I felt that this was a way to say thank you to the amazing staff who work there and who gave us so much support through this incredibly stressful time.   You never expect that your child will have to go through something like this and it is a roller coaster of an experience that challenges every emotion you own.   I am so grateful to all the staff there, who have helped our son recover and will be always in awe of the work that they do.   I hope that if you buy this pattern, you will be happy to join me in supporting this cause.

It is a fairly straight forward design, so it is not too difficult for a beginner and if you fancy to try something small, you can choose to make the little wall hanging, which is fun to hang in any nursery.  There is a stitch directory included in this to help you with the embroidery stitches, which are all fairly simple and fun to do.

My second pattern, 'Regatta' comes from my love of the seaside and is a great quilt to make for children.   The sails on the boat are made from cotton jersey, which is a great fabric for appliqué as it doesn't fray.  You could even use up some old t-shirts to do this and make it an extra personal quilt. 

 This is a bright and cheerful project and great for using up scraps, especially for the flag border.

The mini quilt is designed so that you can add a small embroidered or handwritten birth label, if you wish.

 The last of my first batch of patterns is called 'Pineapple Crush' and I simply love this project.  It is fun and vibrant and has those darling little pinwheels that I love so much, splashed around in every pineapple.  The tassels too are detachable for washing and well... it just adds a touch of 'bohemian modern' to your sofa!

It has been alot of work and I couldn't possibly have done this without the constant help and encouragement of my boys and especially the invaluable techy skills of my daughter who really made it all happen on line in the end.   I should also like to thank Paul Railton for the fab professional  photos and Richard at Print-out UK for making the end result look so cool.
